Kelab Alami Tanjung Kupang.
Kelab Alami is a club for the youth of Mukim Tg Kupang, Gelang Patah, Johor. The focus of the club is to increase environmental awareness amongst the young people of the area so that they will begin to understand and appreciate the natural heritage that is in their backyard. Not only are the youth engaged in a constant series of environmental education programs, but they are trained as Youth Rangers who monitor their natural environment and conduct regular studies on habitat status as well as experiments in the seagrass and mangrove areas (guided by scientist advisors). At the same time, their familiarity with their surroundings and the assets of their ecosystem allows them to become ecotourism guides for visiting schools or tourists to the area.
Kelab Alami is the brainchild of Abang Lan and Kak Ina (Shalan & Serina) and came about as a result of invitations to teach about the environment by Cikgu Bakhtiar & Cikgu Zurina in the mukim. KelabAlami is advised by a network of marine scientists, naturalists, environmental educators and supported by countless friends, families and angels.
With the onsent of myriad development projects in the area, Kelab Alami Mukim Tg Kupang has now evolved to focus on capacity-building the local community so that they can get jobs in the unavoidable urbanisation and development that is taking place in their mukim. We work to provide opportunities for as many as possible, whether through sport, marine-related incomes, classes or anything else that might be of interest to the community.
